Sloppy Words vs Wordle: What Is the Difference?

Tuesday, March 24, 2026

Sloppy Words and Wordle are both free, daily, one-word-per-day puzzle games. That's where the similarities end.

Wordle gives you a five-letter word and six attempts to guess it. Each guess reveals which letters are correct, which are in the wrong position, and which aren't in the word at all. It's a process of elimination. You narrow down the possibilities letter by letter until the word emerges. The skill is in choosing guesses that eliminate the most letters efficiently.

Sloppy Words gives you a word of any length and five clues to figure it out. The clues are descriptions of the word, starting absurdly vague and ending nearly precise. There are no letter hints. You either know the word from the description or you don't. The skill is in reading comprehension, lateral thinking, and the ability to connect an absurd description to the everyday word it's pointing at.

Wordle is a logic puzzle. Sloppy Words is a recognition puzzle. Wordle makes you feel smart for deducing. Sloppy Words makes you feel smart for the moment the answer clicks... that "oh, of course" moment when a ridiculous description suddenly makes perfect sense.

The scoring is different too. Wordle tracks your guess distribution (how many attempts it took) and your streak. Sloppy Words uses a point system that starts at 1,000 and decreases with wrong guesses and clue reveals. Sloppy Words also has weekly, monthly, and all-time leaderboards, streak bonuses that stack, and a full puzzle archive you can play anytime.

The time commitment is similar. Both take about two minutes per day. Both are designed to be a quick daily ritual rather than a long gaming session. Many players play both... Wordle in the morning, Sloppy Words whenever they need a laugh.

If you like Wordle and want something that exercises a different part of your brain... something funnier, less mechanical, and more about language than logic... Sloppy Words is worth trying. Start with the Starter Pack to learn how the clues work, then jump into the daily puzzle.
