About sloppywords
The word is right there. We promise.
Everyone has that one friend.
You know the one. Mid-sentence, they'll hit a word... a completely normal, everyday word... and it just vanishes. Poof. Gone. And instead of stopping to think, they keep going, describing the missing word in the most roundabout, surprisingly accurate way imaginable.
We have that friend.
One day they needed the word "escalator" and instead said, completely straight-faced, "you know, the staircase that gave up and asked for help."
We lost it. And then we thought... wait. That's actually kind of genius.
That moment turned into a question: what if forgetting a word wasn't embarrassing... what if it was a game? What if the whole point was to describe something in the sloppiest, most roundabout way possible and see if anyone could figure out what you meant?
That question became sloppywords.com.
How it works
Every day we publish one word. Instead of giving you a clean dictionary definition, we give you a deliberately sloppy, roundabout, and hopefully funny description of that word... just like our friend would. Your job is to figure out what the word is using as few clues as possible.
The fewer clues you need, the higher your score. Come back every day, build your streak, and see how you stack up on the leaderboard.
It's a word game for people who love words, people who occasionally forget words, and everyone in between.
The name
Sloppy words. Words described sloppily. Words that slip away right when you need them. It felt right from the start... and honestly our friend would have forgotten a better name anyway.
